1. What Is 420?
So, what is 420? The 20th April (the date is 20/4 or in the American date format 4/20) is the date of an annual event that celebrates and campaigns for cannabis. People around the world get together in places such as parks to carry out celebrations and campaigns. The atmosphere is always phenomenal.

The term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking wiseacres who called themselves the Waldos, who are now pushing 60. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a plan to search for an abandoned cannabis crop that they had learned about, based on a treasure map made by the grower’s dead brother.
420 eventually became an international code for marijuana. It has been central to cannabis culture ever since – as well as spawning an annual global celebration.

- Head over to big gatherings to socialise, celeberate and campaign for 420. For example, Hyde Park in London sees thousands of cannabis lovers and campaigners unite.
