The Amnesia Haze strain is one of the most iconic cannabis strains in the world, known for its uplifting effects, citrus-heavy flavour profile and unmistakable haze character. This legendary sativa-dominant strain has remained one of the most searched and requested cannabis genetics for decades.
Originally associated with the famous Dutch coffeeshop scene, Amnesia Haze quickly built a reputation for its energetic cerebral effects, complex terpene profile and powerful potency. Over the years, breeders have developed multiple variations of the strain, including autoflowering versions, lemon-infused hybrids and modern high-THC interpretations.
In this guide, we’ll explore the origins of the Amnesia Haze strain, its flavour and effects, why it became so influential, and some of the best Amnesia-inspired seeds currently available at Kings Seedbank.
What Is the Amnesia Haze Strain?
Amnesia Haze is a sativa-dominant cannabis strain celebrated for its uplifting, energetic and long-lasting effects. While exact genetics vary between breeders, most versions trace their heritage back to classic Haze genetics combined with Afghani, South Asian and Jamaican influences.
The strain became famous for producing an intense cerebral experience paired with sharp citrus aromas, spicy incense notes and a clean haze finish. Unlike heavier indica strains, Amnesia Haze is typically associated with creativity, focus and daytime energy.
Its popularity exploded throughout Europe during the early 2000s, particularly in Amsterdam coffeeshops, where the Amnesia Haze strain became one of the most recognisable haze varieties ever released.
Origins & Dutch Coffeeshop History
The Amnesia Haze strain is deeply connected to the Dutch cannabis scene and remains one of the defining strains of the Amsterdam coffeeshop era.
Classic Haze genetics originally emerged from a blend of landrace strains sourced from regions including Thailand, Cambodia, Jamaica and Afghanistan. Breeders later refined these genetics into more stable hybrids with stronger yields and shorter flowering times.
The modern Amnesia Haze phenotype became especially popular in the Netherlands due to its combination of potency, flavour and soaring sativa effects. Its strong citrus aroma, euphoric high and dense resin production helped it stand out from older haze varieties that were often difficult to grow consistently.
Over time, the Amnesia Haze strain became one of the most awarded and commercially successful haze strains in Europe, inspiring countless variations from leading breeders around the world.
Effects & Experience
The Amnesia Haze strain is best known for its energetic and uplifting cerebral effects, delivering a classic sativa-style experience that feels creative, euphoric and mentally stimulating.
Many users describe the experience as:
- Euphoric and mood-enhancing
- Creative and mentally stimulating
- Social and uplifting
- Long-lasting and motivating
Unlike heavier indica strains, Amnesia Haze is typically chosen for daytime enjoyment due to its active and clear-headed nature. The effects often begin with a rush of mental energy before settling into a balanced, feel-good experience.
While the strain is known for its energising qualities, the presence of terpenes such as myrcene also helps introduce a smoother and more balanced edge to the experience. This combination of uplifting limonene-rich citrus notes alongside earthy myrcene undertones is one reason the strain remains so popular.
Some modern versions also introduce slightly more relaxing characteristics through indica-influenced breeding, creating a smoother and more accessible haze experience for newer users.
Flavour & Terpene Profile
One of the reasons the Amnesia Haze strain became so iconic is its unmistakable terpene profile.
Typical flavour notes include:
- Citrus and lemon zest
- Earthy spice
- Herbal haze
- Sweet incense
- Pepper and pine undertones
The aroma is sharp, fresh and instantly recognisable, especially in lemon-forward versions like Amnesia Lemon.
Many Amnesia genetics are rich in terpenes such as myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene and subtle traces of pinene, helping create the strain’s signature balance of citrus brightness, herbal haze flavour and uplifting cerebral effects.
Myrcene contributes earthy and herbal undertones, limonene brings the sharp citrus and lemon aroma, while caryophyllene adds subtle peppery spice to the overall profile.
Why the Amnesia Haze Strain Became Legendary
The Amnesia Haze strain earned its legendary reputation because it delivered something unique compared to traditional indica-heavy strains.
Its combination of:
- Powerful cerebral effects
- Distinctive citrus haze flavour
- Strong potency
- Coffeeshop heritage
- Large yields
helped it become one of the defining cannabis strains of the modern era.
Even decades after its rise to popularity, the Amnesia Haze strain continues to dominate seedbank searches and remains one of the most recognisable names in cannabis culture.
Modern breeders have continued evolving the strain through autoflowering genetics, lemon hybrids and stronger THC expressions while preserving the original haze character that made it famous.
